    Default what size water heater?

I think the water heater at the cottage is leaking. It appears to have a drip. I want to replace it. The main issue I have is the new unit must be 120 volts same as the old one. There is no room electrically to add a 240 circuit. All the 120 volt units I have found locally are only 10 gallons. The old one is 40 gallons.
Is 10 gallons enough to use for a shower? Does anyone have a small unit like this on a shower? Is it giving enough water?

As a follow up, What do you think would be the minimum size I should consider?

How many people stay at cottage? I did not know Hot Water heaters have 120 volt powered options. 10 gallons may not be enough depending on how long a person showers / number of people and if dishes are being washed at the same time. I suppose a low flow eco shower head may reduce that rate of consumption.

If the old one was 40 gallons was it too powered by 120 volts or 240

I would think think the 240 volt units would be more efficient and more standard for hot water heaters.

Is your panel fuse or breakers? A small sub panel could be an option too.

99% of the time it is only me. The old unit has band heater similar to this - 120 volts 1500 watts. What do you suggest as the minimum size for heater?

My current electric service is full. I wish I could add a 240 volt heater.

don't know if you really want to go to that much pain, the there is a bigger hole than the breaker panel is consuming wonder if it could be replaced with a bigger breaker panel? Or adding sub panel
