  1. **Would you chance it for $200?**

I would....esp if the repair was just a frost free issue and NOT a refrigeration issue.
$400.00 is too steep for sure.

    Marry Christmas.

    Thanks for responding Jeff.
What are your thoughts on investing in this unit?
I'm thinking no more than $200 if that much. That is only if one can do the possible repair themselves. If the end user puts $400 upfront then has to pay a tech for the repair, might as well do what the owner did and just buy a new one.
No way a dealer in used appliances can invest that much, even if it only needs a $75 part, imo.
Told my daughter I wanted to do a little research and possibly get your opinion on buying this unit that has been diagnosed by a tech. Techs have been known to be wrong.
Had my hvac misdiagnosed a few months ago.
Owner says he has the tech's number.
Would you chance it for $200?
    Thanks
  3. Hey Rick,

    Heater - rare.
Defrost thermostat - common ( could not find one in the parts breakdown but that does not mean it is not there ).
    Defrost thermistor - common.
    Board - common.
I think I would check the stat first.
*I* have never used a ground strap and so far have never had an issue.....maybe just lucky?!

Merry Ho Ho to you and your also Rick!

Hi Jeff, hope all is well.
    Whirlpool French door refrigerator
    M - wrf560smyb04
    S- vs54961164
    Has defrost problem
Tech told guy it needs a board
This diagnosis cost the guy $100
Guy is asking $400 for this 2 year old unit
    My daughter is interested
I have found a couple of boards for $75
Of course they go higher, but these are "new in box" and never used. Assume they were bought with other lot of appliance parts overruns, sell outs, etc,.
Figured it might be worth a gamble if a board is all it needs and the price is lowered to cover the risk.
One of my fears is not knowing if maybe a short somewhere outside the board damaged the board.
That and I do not know how sensitive a board might be to static electricity if no ground strap is used on the wrist.
Would appreciate your opinion on this.
And may you and your's have a Merry Christmas old friend!
