Where does the furnace get it's combustion air? Is there an outside air intake?

Check the furnace's install manual for mininum clearances before you close it off. It will also tell you how big of vents (usually 2) that are needed in the door if it takes air from the room. If it's a sealed combustion chamber there may still be a requirement for airflow into the room.

Also, since you are making a furnace room, you need lighting and a service outlet in the room. Make sure there is room to work on the furnace, remove all the covers and to replace the furnace when it comes time.

yes outside air, it's a high efficiency furnace. there is a recepticle and lighting and room to work on the furnace. wouldn't a full louver door be enough venting?

Check the install manual. It will specify what is required.
