Default Oil on top of spin shaft

How much oil is too much at top of spin tube? Are the seals still sold at a feasible price for this old washer?

    Hey Rick,

Any more than none is too much. Shouldn't be oil up there. Some grease is usually ok. Have seen some tech pry out the seal and pour oil down into the bearings but I find this out seem to make it's way out onto the clothes.

Kind of what I was thinking as far as oil is concerned. Water gets past the seals, into tranny, oil comes to the top.
Why would grease be there? Used in installation? Are we talking about the same stuff? I am talking about what I think is transmission oil/grease.

    More than likely.
It is possible someone added it later on.
