    Default Knob discoloration

What makes some knobs get yellow like color to them? Nicotine?
Seems like a lot of times it is just the knobs that do this. Plastic more apt to discolor from nicotine than the painted cabinets, IF it is nicotine?
I have seen some for sale the owner claims to be one year old with this discoloration. Some, if not most, of these are obviously 12 years old or older, imo.

    Hey Rick,

Stove knobs, washer knobs, dryer knobs?
Some will discolour from the grease/oils on your hands. Fluorescent lights make some discolour. Smoking can certainly make things go yellow....esp window/portable air conditioners! Some range ones will yellow from the grease laden oven air.

Flourescent lights, interesting. I think I mostly have washers and dryers in mind, but I have seen this on stoves and fridges too now that I think about it.
Maybe it is the flourescent lights on the on the ones that look as though the knobs are painted that color when the cabinets look unaffected.
Just makes me think they have some age to them when I see this.
    Thanks.

Then you also get those zebra ones....control consol plastic has turned yellow but the door plastic has not...as it appears that some plastic are effected but some are not.

You would be surprised at how much just time, gravity and oxygen effect anything. Even those old family photos in a drawer in a box are not immune to aging... neither will your appliance knobs and fixtures which, are touched daily, exposed to very high heat, grease and the occasional spill.
If the discolor bothers you that much try using a heat gun to gently swipe the knobs with high directed heat. This works on many different worn out plastic parts on everything from cars to electronics.
