    Default Dryer age

    Hotpoint dryer
    Model: htdx100em8ww
    Serial: tf772830c
Several possible dates for this serial number. Any way to pin it down to one?
Latest two possible dates are Oct. '03 and '15.
It does have the fuse at the terminal connections, if that tells anything.
Little hard to believe it is 14 years old.

    Hi Rick,

Trouble is GE reuses the letters over again every 12 years.....that is how we get different manufacturing dates.
    October of 1979 or 1991 or 2003 or 2015.
Parts breakdown didn't have a date, but the use and care manual had one of 10/13.

It does have the fuse at the terminal connections, if that tells anything.
I noticed that and it also has the newer style heating element in it....all pointing more and more towards the 2015 date to me!

I suspected the newer (expensive) element too and checked the parts diagram. That, the fuse and condition made me think it was the newer model.

P.S. I was shocked to see the rating for the operating stat, L210-30F!
Seems to cycle between 160 and 140F in a cool shop.
    Little confused about that.

The operating thermostat is coming up as an 135ºF stat.

    #230 - picture

The high limits are 210ºF without an internal heater and 210ºF with an internal heater.

    #505 & 506 - picture

I will have recheck. That sounds, more reasonable!
I called myself checking more than once since it did not seem right.
Sears, for one, may have gotten it wrong.

WE4M181 shows as "dryer operating thermostat". It is 4 terminal.
The actual stat I was looking for is listed as "dryer thermostat" and is shown on a split page withe title "back splash" with the blower housing and such on the bottom have. I had typed in the search bar and got the wrong stat. It having the 4 terminals made me think it must be on the element housing.
Dang GE! Yep, passing the buck!
