    Default Maytag sometimes weak spin

    Model- mvwc400vw1

Complaint is sometimes the clothes have to be dried twice or have to be spun twice.
Coupler seems okay I used this washer several times with like 6 pair of pants. Did okay.
Clutch seems pretty tight (tighter than some I have seen)
I suspect maybe the brake cam actuator. The long part is open ended as if broken.
I did notice the motor seemed to still be warm when I disassembled the machine.
Also had sooty like material on it and a little on top of the tranny. From the rubber on the coupler?
I used this washer several times with like 6 pairs of pants and a load or two of towels. Seemed okay, but my wife used it for a load and said it did not spin the load dry enough and had to dry twice.
Today I used it for a medium load and had to spin twice.

    Comments appreciated.

Hi Rick, hope all is well!

    Must be.

Since no one has said it has not spun or there was water left at the end, doesn't sound electrical like a timer for getting the pause.
Leaves the tranny, drive block, clutch/brake as prime suspects.

Block is easy to check. I'd definetly try the clutch kit as it suppose to have the brake arm you mentioned and most clutches I see know look really good, but don't work well.....they don't look overly worn, but don't work well.....they look clean, but don't work well.

Hey Jeff, hope is well with you also.
I removed the clutch, cleaned it and the housing. I then changed the clutch spring. It had a green one. I replaced it with a blue clutch spring. I also changed the coupler (5 pad) though I feel the old one was very tight.

I don't go just by looks when checking a clutch. I see how easy or hard it turns by hand. There was some rust in the housing.
It seemed to do spin better. There was no second spinning or drying needed. I have seen some move easier than this one by hand that spun okay.

That being said, the next time may be different. I may very well order a new clutch with a brake can actuator. The actuator does not look quite right. I think the long thicker tip may be broken. The pins on the back are not broken.

I even ran a plumber's snake through the drain pipe trying to cover the most likely bases.
P.S The motor that was on it seemed very warm after running a load, so I changed it thinking it might have weak windings.
My wife and I both though ut ran better while watching it in operation.
    May have gotten lucky.
Speaking of looks be deceiving, can't swear the pump is 100 per cent. I could hear a slight noise that I am not sure is 100 per cent normal.
There had been a lot of buildup near the top of the inner tub and on the outer tub.

Probably a lot of cold water washes.
That build up can look like a snake skin at times

Sounds like you are on top of it all Rick!.....keep up the great job.
