There are a number of reasons that this problem happens. Could be your main up down switch is broken, which requires ordering (like from Sears parts) the switches circuit board.

But sometimes you might have dislocated your interference switch finger sensor internally, such as by preventing the snorkel from going down by a pot or something getting stuck under the lip as it goes down.

There are 3 switches (reference the Service Manual, which you can download) on this unit. The upper switch which is normally open when the snorkel is down, the lower switch which is normally open when the snorkel is up, and the mid switch or interference switch which is normally closed because the finger sensor is supposed to be set above the hook, the part that pushes the snorkel up on the long turning gear from the motor. These switches have a configuration for up and for down and when you push the up/down switch the polarity via the motor is reveresed and gets the snorkel going the other way.

If the interference is dislocated, the fix it pretty easy. You have to open the side, or take off the blower unit and you will expose and see the switch sensor. Simply put the sensor finger, metal prong ABOVE the hook, not under the hook. That should do it.

    Interesting!
I think I have seen about 6 Thermadors in the last 30+ years.
Not a common product around this area.
