Default Electrolux French Door Ice Maker Question

Hello- We have an Electrolux french door refrigerator with the ice maker in the cold compartment, with the dispenser through the door. Model is EW23BC71IS0.

As anyone who owns or services one of these knows, the ice maker has been a problem since new. I've been through several versions of various control boards, etc., some under warranty (useless), and some DIY, and although it works pretty well now, it has one remaining issue that concerns me.

It makes ice as it should, except that it never seems to stop trying to make more, even when the ice drawer is full. As a result, the ice mold gets hung up on the pile of ice in the drawer, and eventually the little gearbox that the bail arm is connected to, and moves the ice mold back & forth, fails. I just today installed my 4th one.

Here's my basic question: The ice maker troubleshooting flow chart includes test #58C, the bail arm switch test. The test instructions say to press on the lower left switch in the ice maker, and the test display should show "on" and emit a tone. When the switch is not depressed, the display should show "off", and there should be no tone. When I perform this test on my ice maker, the results are opposite what they should be. When I depress the switch, the display says "off" and there is no beeping, and vice versa. I've done this many times since new, after replacing various parts, and the result has always been the same.

The microswitch in question has 3 terminals, common, normally open, and normally closed. I'm wondering if the test procedure has a misprint, or the switch connections have changed since the original, or some wiring buried elsewhere in the fridge is incorrect, or whatever??

The connections on the switch match the photos in the documentation, and in photos I've found on the web, but the behavior remains opposite to what it's supposed to be.

I'm probably going to try switching the connector from the NO to NC (or vice-versa, I forget what it is now) & see if that fixes the problem. If I do that, I expect that the test results will match what is described in the documentation. Of course, if the documentation is backwards, my change won't fix anything.

So I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with more knowledge/experience than I have as to what the problem here may be, especially if you think I'm on target with changing the switch connections.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Never had to deal with that issue before.
It does sounds like the switch may be miss-wired....trying that would be a good test.

At rest should be closed from C or NC. Should change to C and NO when the tab is pressed.

Thanks! I'll give it a day or 2 & see if it's still overfilling with ice, then try switching the connections.
