Default no time cycle (Whirlpool washer)

Communicating with a lady with a Whpl dryer that advances in auto but not timed cycle. Timer? Sorry no numbers yet. My first thought is timer. Sound about right?

Hoping this is a general enough question without the numbers.

Most complaints are the other way around......but yes, the timer could be a suspect......power to the timer motor in timed dry but no advancing/movement would be a bad timer.
