    Default Magic Chef Dryer

Blows the thermal fuse. Do I need to look further than the high limit and the fuse itself? Cycling stat?
The high limit stat is rated 248-80. We have discussed this before, but it seems there were differing opinions on what exactly that means. If it means the stat will handle up to 312 degrees, and the fuse is only rated at 300 degrees then I need to also look at the cycling stat? From what I can tell from the wiring diagram, the fuse is in series with the door switch and a contact on the timer not directly with the high limit stat? Although if I look closer, it may be through the timer.

    * Ever reset thermal fuses by slapping them on a hard smooth surface?. I have but not sure they hold up. I can see where the tension may affected in the bi-metal making it easier to trip with less heat maybe.

Nope, and I wouldnt take a chance that it would be ok after tripping once.

Air flow, lint filter and blower fan, grounded element and operating thermostat....if all is ok then yes just install the fuse/thermostat kit.

I did slap the fuse against a hard surface and it did reset but not sure if it is holding up. This is the second time I think I have done this. I do not think I will do it again. Not sure the first dryer I tried this on held out. I have a new one, guess I will change it out again. I did clean this dryer out a while back and the blower housing, motor, etc..

I was not sure if the stat on the blower housing would cause this or not.

I will change the high limit and the fuse for new ones. If it does again, there will have a new cycling stat ordered if the owner wants to put that much in this dryer.

P.S. Sorry, thought I ha posted the model number. Model - ye205kw SErial - gh058988 If I remember correctly, this is around 20 years old.

    Thanks

It can, but other things are more common....we usually eliminate them first.

All the other things have been checked. I did get a quite a bit of lint out of the exhaust chute, cleaned the inside out, etc. I will replace the high limit and the fuse today with new ones.
