Default heat with no motor turning

Bought and returned a whlpl dryer today. The heating element would come on, but the motor would not run. And I think the start switch was sticking.

What would let the heater come on without the motor running? I hope this is a general enough guestion that it does need a number.

A shorted to ground heating element...often blows the thermal fuse so the motor doesn't run.
A stuck motor heat switch, sticks in run mode and the heat can come on without the motor running.

Makes sense to me. I didn't check anything as I had just bought it, and did not want to void the warranty so to speak by tinkering with it.

    Thanks

Kinda sorta on this one. Had no way of checking it before the purchase. I was told if there was a problem I could bring it back for a refund. Returned within an hour or so.

    Got lucky on that one.

Have a washer I was told the same thing about. Has grease ring around the top of the tub. I had seen what looked like somekind of trash in the bottom. When I got home, some more was in it. It came from a dark ring around part of the tub at the top. Appears to be dried grease someone had partially wiped/scraped off frommost of the tub. Can't get an answer from that guy. The same guy I got the dryer with the start button that was a little tricky.

    Update:

Guy called me yesterday and apologized for not getting back in touch sooner. He had been out of town working. He is supposed to call back this evening when he gets off work so we do the exchange ( I hope ) since it was dark when we talked last night.

Still not sure he did not call me before now. I was calling his cell number. Anyway, he has a fridge I think I want and told him we could work out that way.

Might come out on top yet!

Fridge was in the gararage set at Maximum. The dial was frozen in place and there appeared to be signs of a few insect larvae. Passed on it, but got a cash refund.
